Mary Shelley has been much-heralded as one of the most influential writers in Gothic, Romantic and science-fiction literature. In this class, we will explore Shelley's writing, both famous and lesser-known texts, within their literary, cultural, and historical contexts. A variety of critical approaches to her work will help us investigate pervasive themes of identity, politics, religion, gender, science, and more.
This course will have a fairly extensive reading list.
