392109 Algorithms in Genome Research (V) (WiSe 2014/2015)

Contents, comment

The functional analysis of molecular genomics data is one of the major tasks with which bioinformatics is faced.

This class will cover the basic methods underlying bioinformatics tools for genomic research. This includes algorithms for genome mapping and assembly, methods for functional genome annotation, in particular gene finding and gene function prediction, methods for the analysis of DNA microarrays and mass spectra, methods and models for protein structure prediction, as well as algorithms for the comparison of two and more genomes.

The syllabus of the class will follow the following three questions:

  • Where do we find the relevant information in the genome?
  • Why is the information we found relevant?
  • When and why does it become active?

This class will be given in English, unless only German-speaking students are present.

Bibliography

Literature will be made available during the class in form of an online list to relevant original articles.
