Auch wenn die Menschenrechte bei ihrer Deklaration im ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert bereits universell angelegt waren, fanden sie ihre Umsetzung vor allem als Rechte des Bürgers der aufkommenden Nationalstaaten. Spätestens mit der Allgemeinen Erklärung der Menschenrechte ist dieser universelle Anspruch ein Beobachtungsschema geworden, welches zentraler Bezugspunkt politischer Kommunikation über den Nationalstaat hinaus ist.
In diesem Seminar soll Ihnen ein Einblick in diese Entwicklung gegeben und die Funktion der Menschenrechte auf der Ebene des Staates und der Weltgesellschaft sowie ihre fortdauernde Entwicklung und Reinterpretation diskutiert werden.
