Die Vorlesung ist der 1. Teil einer Mastersequenz zur Theorie dynamischer Systeme, mit besonderer Betonung der Ergodentheorie. Angestrebt ist eine Mischung von Themen aus den Bereichen konkreter und abstrakter dynamischer Systeme, Gruppenwirkungen, invarianten Maßen, Ergodensätzen und Spektraltheorie.
In diesem Gebiet kommen viele mathematische Disziplinen zusammen, so wie Analysis, Maßtheorie, diskrekter Mathematik, harmonische Analysis und Zahlentheorie. Dementsprechend sind breiter gestreute Vorkenntnisse von Vorteil.
