This course explores the anthropological study of education by examining how culture, identity, and societal forces shape learning and educational practices. Through critical engagement with anthropological theories and perspectives, students will explore the intersections between personality, race, gender, and education. The course covers a broad range of topics, including the foundational concepts of culture, the development of individual identities, and the dynamic interactions between cultural continuity and change in educational settings.
At the completion of this course, students will deepen their understanding of how cultural narratives influence educational experiences at the individual and institutional levels. The course also provides hands-on research opportunities through workshops on data collection and analysis, equipping students with the some initial tools to conduct qualitative research in anthropoloy of education.
