In this seminar series basic and recent topics of applied animal behavior, animal health and animal welfare will be presented and discussed. Thus, Animal will be addressed from 3 different perspectives. For each of these three topics basic as well recent topics will be presented from the organizers or invited speaker. Applied animal behaviour addresses the usage of methods and skills of animal behavior/ethology to farm and/or companion animals, ranging potentially from e.g. poultry, pigs, to horses and dogs. These applied behavioural data can be used to assess welfare of animals. Here not only recent studies and proper solutions to improve animal welfare will be addressed but also pitfalls in discussion animal welfare. Beside proper performance of behavior also health of animals must be appropriate in order to achieve good welfare. Animal health covers “classical” applied issues from feather pecking to tail biting, but will also address aspects like wildlife vaccination campaigns e.g. against diseases such as rabies in order to maintain animal health and eradicate animal diseases.
The seminar will start at each occasion with a lecture presentation from an expert speaker followed by discussions on the topic all participants. The seminar will conducted as an online seminar in collaboration with the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute, Federal Research Institute for Animal Health.
