- This course is part of the focus term on democracy -
In curricula of language teaching, mediation is one of the five main competences to be trained. In this course, we will look at mediation not only as a means of translating information from one language to another but rather as a complex achievement of reading and negotiating diverse (socio-/sub-)cultural contexts. Learning to mediate potentially conflicting world views, therefore, makes mediation part of democracy education.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
For study credits (SL) you will develop a micro-teaching unit (MTU) on mediation; for exam credits (PL) you can write a project-based paper elaborating your MTU or a more theory-based paper.
