Für Platon war sein Garten auf dem Gelände der Akademie ein wichtiger Ort für philosophische Reflexion und Lehre , Epikurs Philosophie wird sogar nach dem Garten (Kepos) benannt, und Cicero schließlich verortet seine Dialoge häufig in den Gärten senatorischer Villen.
In dem Seminar soll dem Gartenmotiv in einschlägigen literarischen Texten v.a. Ciceros gefolgt und dessen Grundlagen und Traditionen rekonstruiert werden. Zudem wird ein Blick auf griechische Texte (zweisprachig bzw. in Übersetzung) gegeben.
Eine Textauswahl wird in einem Reader zur Verfügung gestellt.
