When we speak of forced migration, we often talk about Ukrainian, Syrian, or Afghan refugees in Europe. Meanwhile, more than 6 million Venezuelans have fled to countries such as Colombia, and more than 2 million South Sudanese have fled to countries such as Uganda. As these two examples illustrate, contemporary forced migration takes place first and foremost in the global South. In this seminar, we will study forced migration with a regional focus on Latin America and Africa. Students will thus gain a sociologically informed understanding of forced migration as a global phenomenon.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
