This lecture-style course will introduce students to the history of British literature from the Middle Ages until today. We will survey the major authors and influential works from the various epochs of literary history, and we will trace the developments of drama, poetry and prose fiction. A special emphasis will be placed on the relationship between changes in literature and changes in the contexts of social, political, ideological and economic history.
PLEASE NOTE: As communicated to all students in previous announcements, the lecture course will NOT be offered in the Winter semester of 2014/15, nor in summer 2015. It will next be offered in the Winter semester of 2015/16.
