The course provides a comprehensive overview of the intricate world of global institutions. It covers fundamental concepts such as the meaning, definition, role, members, responsibilities, immunities, privileges, legal personality, and the main types of international organizations. Students will delve into specific International Governmental Organisations like the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), exploring their history, membership, main organs as well as functioning. The course also extends its scope to International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs) like Amnesty International and ICRC, offering insights into their operations.
The course aims to provide participants with a profound understanding of the multifaceted roles that international organisations play in promoting peace, security, social progress, human rights, and economic welfare/environmental sustainability. Through critical examination of the effectiveness of these organisations across diverse functional areas, participants will acquire the knowledge and analytical skills necessary to assess their impact in the changing landscape of global governance and cooperation.
