Die Geschichte des Christentums sollte man im Überblick kennen - aber auch ein Einblick ist sinnvoll. Am besten wählt man als Einstieg den eigenen raumzeitlichen Standort: Geschichte des Christentums in Deutschland. Das ist allemal redlicher als eine Kirchengeschichte klammheimlich in Palästina zu beginnen und sie mit der Reformation in Deutschland münden zu lassen. Freilich steht hinter der Fragerichtung nicht etwa eine patriotische Absicht. Vielmehr ist zu begreifen, wie sich die Moderne als eine 'Welt der Reformationsfolgen' (Trutz Rendtorff) darbietet. Dabei wird auch deutlich, dass die beschränktere Perspektive die weitere sein kann.
Im Seminar wird ein kirchenhistorisches Werk zugrunde gelegt, gelegentliche Quellenlektüren sind vorgesehen. Die Bereitschaft, sich ggf. durch Vorstellen einer Quelle zu engagieren, wird erwartet.
