1839 gilt als Geburtsstunde der Fotografie. Mit Blick auf die historische Entwicklung fotografischer Techniken und Materials widmet sich das Seminar der Geschichte und den Theorien der Fotografie als Medium sowie der Herausbildung des ‚Fotografischen‘. Gemeinsam werden wir u.a. Benjamin, Barthes, Bourdieu, Didi-Huberman, Dubois, Flusser, Krauss, Lunenfeld, Sontag lesen sowie Fotografien von der Daguerreotypie über Fotogramme, Farbfotografie bis hin zur digitalen Fotografie ansehen und analysieren.
