In this seminar, we will examine the rhetorical architecture of Afropessimism (the structure of its claims, its ensemble of questions, its selection of topics, distribution of concerns). We will then use Afropessimist interventions to analyse literary texts (students will also have the chance to select some of the primary literature we tackle).
For those of you who would like a head start on the reading material, we will begin ours discussions with Frank Wilderson´s `Red, White, & Black. Cinema and the Structure of U.S. Antagonisms`and Saidiya Hartman´s `Scenes of Subjection. Terror, Slavery, and Self-Making in Nineteenth-Century America`

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
