In a global perspective, there is high variation in how welfare states address the interface of waged work and family (e.g. care work), and how they mitigate or produce gender and social inequalities. In addition, we witness profound dynamics of change and challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, digitalization, flexibilization, or migration. This seminar will first introduce to work-family policies in a comparative perspective. It will then comprise a guided preparation, participation and conclusion of the International Community, Work and Family Conference at Bielefeld University. Students will participate at individual sessions of the conference, with specific attention on the international state of the art on the politics and policies of community, work and family. This includes the keynote speech by Prof. Juliana Martinez Franzoni (Costa Rica) and two sessions of the conference.
