220181 Reading Revolution: Iranian women in Memoir, Fiction, and Social Media (S) (SoSe 2023)

Contents, comment

The recent feminist protests in Iran in response to the death of Mahsa Amini, the 22 year old Kurdish woman who was killed by Iranian security forces in September 2022, has generated global interest in the bravery and strength of Iranian women. Challenging the perception that this movement is unprecedented this course will look at how Iranian women, throughout the 20th century, have confronted and contested traditional Iranian gender roles and expectations through fiction, life narratives/memoir, and most recently social media.
