In the seminar "Argumentation, Communication and Critical Reading", you will develop skills needed throughout your English studies as well as in professional and private contexts after you graduate. The course offers you the chance to practice expressing yourself appropriately, correctly, easily and confidently, particularly in discussions, talks and meetings. This includes honing the rhetorical skills as well as argumentation skills to describe complex interrelationships and diverse, perhaps even controversial, perspectives. In the critical reading component, you will practice techniques that help you to grasp the main points of academic texts quickly and accurately and how to voice your critical thoughts on them.
Materials will be provided on our LernraumPlus website. Students are expected to check the website and to have these materials available during our sessions.

Student information |
The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
You will need to meet three requirements in order to gain credit for the seminar. The first is that you attend and actively participate in at least 80 % of the class activities. This means you may miss no more than session (=one day of the block seminar). The second is that you upload a recording of an assigned reading to the Lernraum Plus site. Finally, you are required to record and upload a five-minute talk following the final session. Both recordings must be submitted by the deadlines set in class.
