In diesem Seminar werden wir einen Streifzug durch die Werke des römischen Dichters Vergil machen, der zu Recht als einer der großen Klassiker der lateinischen Literatur gilt. Vergils Werke - Eclogen, Georgica und Aeneis - stehen für drei Gattungen: Hirtendichtung, Lehrgedicht und Epos. Diese hat Vergil ausgehend von griechischen Vorbildern zu Meisterwerken geformt, die die europäische Literaturgeschichte geprägt haben.
Im Seminar werden wir anhand von Textausschnitten aller drei Werke die jeweilige Gattung und ihre definierenden Parameter kennenlernen, den historischen und literturgeschichtichen Kontext betrachten und natürlich den Inhalt und die Gestaltung der Texte selbst in Augenschein nehmen.
