In der Einführungsvorlesung "Quantitative Methoden" werden grundlegende
statistische Verfahren erläutert. Die Auswahl der vorgestellten Verfahren
orientiert sich dabei an der aktuellen Forschungspraxis in der empirischen
Soziologie. Die Teilnehmer sind am Ende der Vorlesungsreihe dazu in der
Lage, in soziologischen Fachzeitschriften veröffentlichte Statistiken zu
verstehen und zu deuten. Außerdem haben die Teilnehmer einen methodischen
Leitfaden, der ihnen die Beurteilung analytischer Strategien erlaubt und
bei der Entwicklung eigener Forschungsvorhaben eine grobe, erste
Orientierung bietet.Im Mittelpunkt der Vorlesungsreihe steht die Regressionsanalyse, welches
im sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschungskontext das am häufigsten verwendete
Verfahren ist. Dabei zeichnet sich die Regressionsanalyse zusätzlich durch
seine einfache und intuitive Zugänglichkeit aus. Verschiedene
Erweiterungen und Modifikationen des grundlegenden Regressionsverfahrens
werden diskutiert und durch jeweils aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse
illustriert. Außerdem werden Analogien und Schnittstellen zu anderen
Techniken der sozialwissenschaftlichen Analyse demonstriert. Von allen
Teilnehmern wird eine regelmäßige Präsenz in der Veranstaltung erwartet.
