Die Vorlesung richtet sich an alle Erstsemester des Faches Rechtswissenschaft (Hauptfach und BA-Nebenfach). Die Veranstaltung stellt zum einen das Studium an der Fakultät für Rechtswissenschaft (Einrichtungen, Ablauf, Anforderungen, Klausuren, Hausarbeiten, Examen etc.) vor und soll den Studierenden damit eine wichtige erste Orientierung zu Beginn ihres Studiums geben. Zum anderen nimmt die Vorlesung den Gegenstand des Studiums selbst in den Blick: Das Recht, seine maßgeblichen Grundlagen, Akteure und Institutionen werden ebenso wie die wichtigsten Methoden und Schlüsselkompetenzen der Rechtswissenschaft im Mittelpunkt der Veranstaltung stehen. Die Vorlesung möchte damit genau die Strukturen vermitteln, die im weiteren Verlauf des Studiums mit Inhalt gefüllt werden müssen.
