2006 war der 150. Geburtstag von Sigmund Freud. Anlass zahlreicher neuer Publikationen und Berichte in den Medien über die Entstehung der Psychoanalyse und über ihre Relevanz zu Beginn des 21 Jahrhunderts. Anlass auch, nach der Bedeutung der Psychoanalyse für die Pädagogik zu fragen. Der Frankfurter Erziehungswissenschaftler Micha Brumlik (2006) hat in seinem kulturwissenschaftlichen Buch über Freud diesen als Denker des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts bezeichnt und auch dessen Bedeutung für pädagogische Fragen skizziert. Daran knüpft das Seminar an und ziehlt auf eine Kontextualisierung der pädagogischen Auseinandersetzungen mit den Einsichten der Psychoanalyse.
In dem Seminar werden keine Referatsthemen vergeben. Es wird vorausgesetzt, dass alle Teilnehmenden die Pirmär- und Sekundärtexte für die einzelnen Sitzungen vorbereiten. Leistungsnachweise können in Form von Hausarbeiten oder mündlichen Prüfungen erbracht werden.
