Die Kunstgeschichte hat sich neuerdings zunehmend mit dem Thema der materiellen Kultur beschäftigt, eine Wendung, die mit neueren Fragen nach dem Globalen und post-Anthropozän in Verbindung steht. Dieses Blockseminar bietet eine Einführung in Material Culture Studies. Durch gemeinsame Lektüren, Übungen und Referate werden wir uns den Methoden und Leitfäden der Material Culture annähern.
Welche Zugänge zur visuellen Kultur bietet das Materielle? Was können wir zusätzlich daraus lernen? Was bedeutet «a material» Analyse? Das Seminar wird Lektürenintensiv (auch mit Texten in englischer Sprache). Spannende Exkursionen sowie Übungen vor Ort sind ebenfalls Teil des Lehrplans.
