In diesem Grundkurs sollen die „Basics“ für den Umgang mit dem Alten Testament vermittelt werden. Zu diesem Zweck erhalten die Studierenden nacheinander eine Einführung in die Welt und Umwelt des AT (Landeskunde Palästinas und Geschichte Israels), einen bibelkundlichen Überblick über die Schriften des AT und schließlich einen Einblick in die Fragestellungen und Methoden der Auslegung von alttestamentlichen Texten, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf der hitorisch-kritischen Exegese liegen wird.
