Amok ist ein extremes und entsprechend seltenes Gewaltphänomen. Aus beiden Gründen wird Amok ein hohes Maß medialer Aufmerksamkeit zuteil. Erklärungen sind meistens schnell gefunden: eine Faszination für Waffen, für Horrorfilme oder neuerdings eher für "Killerspiele", Menschenhass etc. Obwohl auch in der öffentlichen Diskussion differenzierte Ursachenanalysen durchaus Anklang finden, beschränken sich politische Forderungen in der Folge von Amoktaten in der Regel auf neue Verbote (z.B. von "Killerspielen") und mehr Kontrolle (z.B. "Querulantendatenbanken" oder die automatisierte Suche nach potenziellen Amoktätern im Internet). Aber ist Amok so einfach zu erklären und zu verhindern?
In dem Seminar sollen verschiedene Erklärungsansätze für das Gewaltphänomen Amok diskutiert werden. Auf dieser Grundlage sollen Vorhersage- und Präventionsmöglichkeiten erarbeitet werden.

Der Besuch der Veranstaltungen "Jugendgewalt" oder "Aggressives Verhalten bei Kindern und Jugendlichen" ist keine Voraussetzung für den Besuch des Seminars, aber hilfreich.
