Poe is one of the most important authors of American Literature. The class wants to give an overview over his whole work (essays, poetry, short stories) and use this as an example for different interpretive strategies (hermeneutic, psychoanalytic, etc.). Moreover, the class wants to give an idea of different genres in narrative texts, such as fantasy stories, horror stories, crime stories, ... In a further look the class will also examine Poe's reception by the media, for example in music, film, photography, etc.
