Im Seminar soll das Buch "Characteristic Classes" von Milnor und Stasheff durchgearbeitet werden. Ein Besuch der parallel stattfindenden Vorlesung zur algebraischen Topologie wird angeraten.

Charakteristische Klassen sind Kohomologie-Klassen, die dem Tangentialbündel einer Mannigfaltigkeit, und allgemein Vektorbündeln über Mannigfaltigkeit zugeordnet werden. Ein Verständnis der Kohomologieklassen und ihrer Eigenschaften ist grundlegend sowohl für die Differentialgeometrie als auch die Topologie höher dimensionaler Mannigfaltigkeiten.

Eine Vorbesprechung des Seminars wird am Freitag, den 4. Februar 2022 um 10:15 Uhr per Zoom stattfinden. Das Seminar soll nach Möglichkeit in Präsenz stattfinden.
