Die Idee der Menschenrechte ist eine, wenn nicht gar die zentrale normative Kategorie in zeitgenössischen politischen Diskursen der Weltgesellschaft. Gleichwohl ist es weder in der politischen Praxis noch in der theoretischen Reflexion unterschiedlicher Disziplinen schlechthin klar, wie genau die Menschenrechte zu begründen und zu interpretieren sind und in welcher Form ihre angemessene Umsetzung bestehen könnte. Alle diese Dimensionen der Menschenrechte unterliegen teils vehementen politischen und theoriepolitischen Deutungskontroversen.
Das Seminar dient der Auseinandersetzung mit den wesentlichen Positionen innerhalb der zeitgenössischen Theoriedebatten über die Menschenrechte.
