„DDR-Literatur“ – was ist damit eigentlich gemeint? Bezieht sich das Thema auf die Zeit nach der Staatsgründung 1949 bis zum Ende der DDR im Jahre 1990? Der Begriff ist durchaus problematisch, da die Literatur der DDR kein homogenes Feld ist; für eine literaturgeschichtliche Epochenkonzeption lassen sich jedoch durchaus Sachgründe anführen (kulturpolitische Rahmenbedingungen, „Sozialistischer Realismus vs. Formalismus“, „Erbetheorie“, „Bitterfelder Weg“, „Ankunftsliteratur“, Mythenrezeption u.v.m.). Diese Entwicklungen und Fragen diskutieren wie im Seminar anhand ausgewählter Texte von Jurek Becker, Wolf Biermann, Thomas Brasch, Günter de Bruyn, Fritz Rudolf Fries, Peter Hacks, Christoph Hein, Barbara Honigmann, Uwe Kolbe, Reiner Kunze, Monika Maron, Helga M. Novak, Ulrich Plenzdorf, Lutz Rathenow, Brigitte Reimann, Helga Schubert, Anna Seghers, Lutz Seiler und Christa Wolf. Ebenfalls thematisiert werden DEFA-"Kellerfilme" ("Das Kaninchen bin ich", "Spur der Steine", "Wenn du groß bist, lieber Adam").
