Produkte der populären Kultur werden als Ausdrucksformen der menschlichen Lebenswelt wahr- und ernstgenommen. Gerade in der Popmusik werden vielfältige Aussagen gemacht und kommen Gefühle zum Ausdruck. Dabei spielen auch gerade religiöse Aspekte eine erstaunlich große Rolle. So schaffte es z. B. ein Lobpreis-Song bis in die Charts (Joan Osborne: One of us). Im Leben von Schüler*innen spielen Lieder eine große Rolle, deshalb kommt auch der Religionsunterricht nicht an ihnen vorbei. In ihnen werden die großen Themen der Menschheit verhandelt.
