230535 Focus: A Reading Class (S) (SoSe 2020)

Contents, comment

Schedules are tight, plates are full - so much to do, so much to read, so little time.
Required readings in our classes are often limited to excerpts or articles, making reading a complete text an exception. And what's to be done if the text also happens to be long, complex and difficult?
In this class we will make time to read and engage with more challenging literary and theoretical texts from US-American Literary and Cultural Studies; literary classics and seminal theoretical texts. The goal is to read at least some in their entirety and to discuss insights from the reading encounters with peers in book-club-format. We will also share strategies for successful reading and decide about some of the readings together.
