Regulations based on the corona pandemic:
The course will take place on April 20th. start online at 10:00 a.m. The participating students will be informed about the corresponding access data.
If presence at the University is possible again during the time of the course, a practical lab course is offered with a reduced experimental setup, and possibly also offered at a later date.

The aim of this course is to develop theoretically and experimentally (using video tutorials) a basic understanding of molecular genetics of bacteria . Building on the basic knowledge gained in the basic and advanced modules of the first and third bachelor semester, this module deals with the bacterial genome organization and its regulation in depth. Classical methods such as crossover and selection as well as the characterization of mutants are developed. The rest of the course is reserved for genetic engineering. The basics of heterologous gene expression and targeted mutagenesis are taught and typical experiments on DNA cloning, expression and mutagenesis are explained. The DNA constructs are designed and analyzed in e-learning units under instruction and the expected results are evaluated. These results and selected literature will be presented online by the participants in the form of short presentations.
