Wie kann man unterschiedliche Ausprägungen in Wohlfahrtsstaaten beobachten und wie erklären? Wie kann man sicherstellen, dass die daraus resultierenden Aussagen theoretisch ertragreich sind und wie kann man sie empirisch validieren? Das Seminar gibt Antworten unter anderem auf diese Fragen. Es werden sich zunächst unterschiedliche Ansätze des Vergleichens angeschaut, um den Teilnehmenden eine Übersicht über methodisch konzeptionelle Zugänge zur vergleichenden Wohlfahrtsforschung zu geben. Es folgt ein Überblick über mögliche Erklärungsansätze zur Entstehung und Wachstum von Wohlfahrtsstaaten, welche mit den methodischen Grundlagen verknüpft werden. Schließlich werden ausgewählte Fallstudien genauer betrachtet, anhand derer das zuvor erlangte Wissen in Verbindung gebracht werden soll mit dem Vorgehen in empirischen Studien.
Das Seminar wird als wöchentliche Zoomsitzung stattfinden.
