205025 Literaturseminar Computational Genomics (S) (WiSe 2010/2011)

Contents, comment

In this seminar current publications and developments in the field of applied bioinformatics are presented and discussed. The seminar is designed for students interested particularly in bioinformatics in genome research.
This semester we will focus on the topic Metagenomics. Metagenomics is a quite new research field which addresses the analysis of all the genetic information including any organism of an environmental sample. For the first time more in-depth analyses of individual habitats are feasible due to the progress in the area of cloning-free high-throughput sequencing. Typical metagenomic questions involve the taxonomic characterization of individual communities, the collection of the metabolic capacity of individual organisms as well as their interaction with each other.
This seminar deals with the bioinformatic analysis of metagenomic data sets. Based on current scientific publications there will be a presentation and discussion of different analysis methods.
