Seit der Beratungskritik in den 1980er Jahren und seit der Kritik von Schütze an den Stereotypien und Klassifikationen professionellen Handelns im Kontext von sozialer Arbeit ist es für das Arbeitsfeld Beratung in Sozialer Arbeit, Schule, Supervision und verwandten Professionen schwierig geworden, sich weiterhin ausschließlich auf ihre Methoden zu beziehen. Eine wissenschaftliche Grundlage, ethische Verständigung und Konkretisierung der Beratungsprozesse wurde nötig. Im Seminar werden auf der Basis von Grundlagentheorien (Foucault, Link), von Professionstheorien (Oevermann) und mittels der Fallanalyse von Schütze (z. B. 1994) Bausteine eines wissenschaftlichen Verständnisses von Beratung behandelt. Gleichzeitig werden Entwicklungslinien der Beratung nach 1945 aufgezeigt und Diskurse zur Gouvernementalität, trivialisierten Therapie aber auch zur Ethik und zum Handeln in Beratungskontexten vorgestellt.
