Das Seminar verfolgt eine doppelte Zielsetzung: Zum einen stellt es eine Einführung in das bildungswissenschaftliche *Studium* dar. Somit geht es darum, sich mit grundsätzlichen Rahmenbedingungen des Lehramtsstudiums und der Wissenschaft sowie dem wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten auseinanderzusetzen: Wozu dient das Studium auf dem Weg zur Lehrperson? Wer studiert warum Lehramt? Was bedeutet Wissenschaft und wie wird wissenschaftlich gearbeitet? Des Weiteren ist es Ziel des Seminars, die Fähigkeit zur Beobachtung und Reflexion von Unterricht anzubahnen (Fallarbeit).

Zum anderen dient das Seminar der Einführung in das *bildungswissenschaftliche* Studium, d. h. es geht um erste wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzungen mit grundlegenden Fragestellungen zu Unterricht, Schule und dem Handeln als Lehrperson: Was ist Unterricht? Was ist guter Unterricht? Was ist Schule, wozu ist die Schule da, was lernen Schüler*innen eigentlich in der Schule? Welche Anforderungen kennzeichnen das Unterrichten und den Lehrerberuf? Worin besteht professionelles Lehrerhandeln?
