Das Seminar beschäftigt sich aus soziologischer Perspektive mit der ‚sozialen Robotik‘. Entsprechend stehen neue Interaktionstechnologien wie ‚verkörperte Agenten‘ und ‚soziale Roboter‘ im Fokus, und es soll der Frage nachgegangen werden, ob und wie sich Sozialität verändert, wenn nicht mehr nur Menschen miteinander kommunizieren, sondern auch entsprechende Technologien als Kommunikationspartner von Menschen auftreten.
Darüber hinaus wird im Seminar auch auf ethische Aspekte eingegangen, die sich im Zuge der Einführung von Robotern und Agenten (etwa im Pflegebereich) stellen. Dabei steht die Frage im Mittelpunkt, inwieweit die Soziologie zu Debatten um diese ethischen Aspekte beitragen kann.
