Das Seminar nimmt die Pastellmalerei, ihre medialen Eigenheiten und Zuschreibungen in den Blick. Was sind die Bedingungen und Möglichkeiten des Mediums und wie begründet sich der Erfolg der Pastellmalerei im 18. Jahrhundert? Was waren die kulturellen Kontexte für Assoziationen wie „Weiblichkeit“ und „Intimität“, die sich z.T. bis heute an das Medium knüpfen? Diese und weitere Fragen sollen unter Berücksichtigung material- und medientheoretischer Ansätze sowie der Kunstpraxis des 18. Jahrhunderts behandelt werden. Eine Exkursion zur Übung vor Originalen ist geplant.
