Im Modul Sozialstrukturanalyse und soziale Ungleichheit werden regelhaft im Wintersemester Seminare angeboten, die eher allgemeineres Grundlagenwissen vermitteln. Im Sommersemester finden dagegen eher theoretisch oder empirisch vertiefende Seminare statt (vgl. Homepage: http://www.uni-bielefeld.de/soz/ab5/). Bei diesem Seminar handelt es sich um ein empirisch vertiefendes Seminar zum Arbeiten in der Crowd. Arbeiten in der Crowd, bzw. Crowdworking beschreibt die Erledigung von spezifischen, zeitlich begrenzten Arbeitsaufgaben gegen Entlohnung, die über digitale Plattformen vermittelt werden. Im Rahmen des Seminares wird gefragt inwiefern mit Crowdworking, als neuer Form der Beschäftigung, ein disruptiver Wandel im Beschäftigungssystem einhergeht. Zuerst werden im Rahmen des Seminars die Verbreitung von Crowdworking und die Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten zu anderen Formen von Arbeit (z.B. Normalarbeitsverhältnis, Leiharbeit, Solo-Selbständige) und die besondere Rolle von Vermittlungsplattformen herausgearbeitet. Im Anschluss werden mit Hilfe von Befragungsdaten von Crowdworkern kleine empirische Untersuchungen umgesetzt.

Anforderungen an eine aktive Teilnahme sind die regelmäßige Teilnahme am Seminar, das Lesen der Basistexte, eine Kurz-Präsentation (20 Minuten) zu einem Basistext sowie die Erstellung von „take-home“-Botschaften nach mehreren Seminarsitzungen. Für eine benotete Einzelleistung ist eine Hausarbeit zum Thema der Veranstaltung zum Ende des Semesters einzureichen.
