Since the mid-nineteenth century, the natural and social sciences are a tool for governmental regulation. Subjects of regulation were (and are) population, urban planning, public health, the economy, international affairs, nutrition, pollution, to name but a few. With the increasing relevance of regulation by science, the regulation of science itself by political and economic actors became central. In the seminar, we will criticially engage the regulatory context of modern science, social science, and technology.
