230345 Media Linguistics: Language and Communication in the "New" Media (S) (WiSe 2018/2019)

Contents, comment

Media Linguistics is a rather recent and dynamically evolving linguistic sub-discipline whose development gained particular momentum with the advent of the "new" media. In this class, we will lay some theoretical foundations (i.e. discuss crucial concepts such as medium, communication form, genre, multimodality and others) and try out some essential media linguistic methods (both quantitative and qualitative as well as synchronic and diachronic). On this basis, the course participants will develop their own small-scale research projects and present first results at the end of the seminar.
