300256 Transnational Feminist Studies through Literature and The Arts (S) (SoSe 2018)

Students in this class will look at a variety of transnational creative works by well known feminist writers and artists from every continent including performances, poetry, film, creative non-fiction, essays, and visual art. Specifically we will explore the how these feminists draw on their own creative processes and aesthetics to explore race, class, sexuality, and gender in various transnational contexts. We will discuss how each creator thought about audience, ethics, and notions of subjectivity. Each week students will create a work in the genre of one of the people we have studied focused on a personal topic of creative, personal, or scholarly interest. This may include poetry, creative writing, performance, visual art, music, or a short scholarly paper.
