230316 Up Yonder: Exploring Canada Through Literature (S) (SoSe 2018)

Contents, comment

Framing the Americas up north lies Canada, vastly underexplored territory in Interamerican contexts.
The second biggest country in the world is often reduced to its friendly-neighbor status in popular discourses. What do we actually know about Canada? And what kind of picture can we piece together from literary texts written in an about Canada?

In this class we will juxtapose (or combine?) input gained from non-fictional materials concerning Canada's histories, cultures, peoples, politics and impressions gathered from literary texts spread across time, genres and Canadian territories, hoping to gain more insight into the land up yonder.
