In den letzten Jahren wird im Rahmen der empirischen Kommunikationsforschung zunehmend in den Blick genommen, dass Kommunikation nicht allein sprachliches Geschehen ist, welches sich mündlich oder schriftlich vollzieht, sondern häufig mehrere ‚Modalitäten’ einschließt. So wird in der Interaktionsforschung etwa untersucht, wie Körperbewegungen und Gesten zur Verständnissicherung eingesetzt werden, während in der Medienforschung zunehmend der kommunikative Einsatz von Bildern in ihrem Zusammenspiel mit Texten in den Blick gerät. Das Seminar soll vor diesem Hintergrund in ausgewählte Ansätze der Forschung zur Multimodalität von Kommunikation einführen. Hierbei wird den Studierenden auch Gelegenheit geboten, die Auseinandersetzung mit den einzelnen Ansätzen in kleinen Übungen zu vertiefen.
