In this study group we will test and research the viability of role-play in education, and specifically its usefulness in language learning.
During the seminar we will test a role-playing game ourselves, reflect on our experiences and evaluate how effective it could be for the promotion of language skills and personal development.
With the help of our own findings and by examining theory and research in this area, we will assess the affordances of this form of gamification/game-based learning with a primary focus on acquiring English, but also in relation to wider educational issues.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
As this is a 'Studiengruppe' and involves only students, all participants will be actively involved at all levels, for example in setting the parameters of the study group's work, defining terms, discussing and determining what material to focus on and how, preparing short talks and/or leading discussions, presenting analyses of specific material, deciding how to structure the sessions, etc. Students can gain 3 credit points for "Internationalisation at Home" by participating.
