Die Veranstaltung soll die Grundlagen für ein Verständnis der modernen Verfassung gebe. So werden die wichtigen Stichwortgeber der politischen Entwicklung zu einer demokratischen, rechtsstaatlichen Verfassung erörtert. Der Streifzug durch die Geschichte wird mit Hobbes beginnen und in der Gegenwart bei der Diskussion um die Europäische Verfassung enden. Die zentralen Ideen der Autoren werden vorgestellt und Auszüge aus ihren Schriften gelesen und diskutiert. Erworben werden kann in der Veranstaltung der kleine Grundlagenschein.
