Gegenstand der Lehrveranstaltung sind schulgeschichtliche Epochen der älteren bis neueren Zeitgeschichte vom Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bis zum Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts: 1. Wilhelminisches Zeitalter; 2. Weimarer Republik; 3. Nationalsozialismus und 4. Schule nach 1945. Dabei werden vorrangig Entwicklungen berücksichtigt, die das Gymnasium und die Volksschule betreffen, und zwar sowohl was schulpolitische als auch ideengeschichtliche und wirkungsgeschichtliche Gesichtspunkte betrifft.
