Die Vorlesung beschreibt das Sachenrecht, wie es im Dritten Buch des BGB kodifiziert und durch Rechtsprechung und Wissenschaft ausgeformt ist. Das Sachenrecht enthält die Regeln, aus denen sich ergibt, welche Rechte die Menschen (und die juristischen Personen) an Sachen haben können. Im Sachenrecht kommt vor allem die Grundentscheidung unserer Rechtsordnung zum Ausdruck, dass der Eigentümer einer Sache frei über ihre Nutzung und Verwertung bestimmen kann. Außerdem geht es zum Beispiel um die wirtschaftlich sehr bedeutende Frage, wie Kredite mit Hilfe von Sachen gesichert werden können. Sachenrecht ist Freiheitsrecht (einschließlich der Grenzen von Freiheit durch soziale Bindung), Vermögensrecht, Wirtschaftsrecht und - wie sich im Recht des Besitzes zeigt - Friedensrecht. Behandelt wird das Recht der beweglichen Sachen und das Recht der Grundstücke sowie die das gesamte Gebiet beherrschenden allgemeinen Grundsätze. Am Ende des Semesters wird eine Abschlussklausur angeboten.
