Der Autor Quintus Curtius Rufus ist und bleibt ein Rätsel: Wir wissen nicht, wann er lebte, seine Zeitgenossen oder spätere berichten gar nichts über ihn. Dennoch ist ein beträchtlicher Teil seines Werkes überliefert worden und Curtius wurde ab dem Mittelalter als Schulautor geschätzt. Nach einer längeren Phase der Geringschätzung ist Curtius wieder mehr in den Mittelpunkt gerückt, und zwar nicht so sehr als Historiker, sondern vielmehr als Erzähler. Die narratologische Betrachtungsweise soll auch Schwerpunkt des Seminars sein, in dem wir herausfinden wollen, wie Curtius den großen Alexander darstellt.
