239640 Valerius Flaccus: Argonautica (S) (SoSe 2014)

Valerius Flaccus gehört mit Lucan, Statius und Silius Italicus zu den vier flavischen Epikern. In seinem Epos Argonautica beschreibt er die Fahrt Iasons und der Argonauten nach Kolchis sowie die Rückgewinnung des Goldenen Vlieses mit Hilfe der kolchischen Königstochter Medea.
Im Rahmen des Seminars werden wir ausgewählte Textpassagen lesen und interpretieren. Ein Schwerpunkt wird dabei die besondere epische Technik des Valerius Flaccus sein, die wir mit der Vergils und Apollonius von Rhodos' vergleichen: Vergil ist für Valerius Flaccus in Stil und Formensprache maßgebend, ebenso Apollonius Rhodius, von dessen Epos zum selben Stoff sich Valerius Flaccus jedoch in vielfacher Hinsicht abgrenzt.
Ein zweiter Schwerpunkt wird auf der "ideologischen" Konzeption liegen, so etwa der teleologischen Funktion der Argonautenfahrt oder dem Zusammenhang mit der flavischen Herrschaftsideologie.
Ein dritter Schwerpunkt wird auf der Betrachtung der Ethopoiie der Königstochter Medea liegen. Dabei werden wir analysieren, wie Valerius Flaccus Medeas Entscheidungsfindung gestaltet, sich gegen ihren Vater und ihr Land zu wenden und Iason zu unterstützen.
