In diesem Lektürekurs soll das Buch "Making up the mind: how the brain creates our mental world" von Chris Frith (2007, erschienen bei Blackwell Publishing) gemeinsam gelesen und diskutiert werden.
Zu behandelnde Fragen sind etwa: Wie konstruiert das Gehirn unser mentales Erleben, (z.B. unsere physikalische und kulturelle Umwelt, unser Selbst…)? Welche Auswirkungen in diesem Konstruktionsprozess haben Hirnverletzungen oder Drogen? (Wie) können wir Realität und Fiktion unterscheiden?
Das Buch liefert auf knapp 200 allgemeinverständlich geschriebenen Seiten erste Antworten auf diese spannenden Fragen in dem Ergebnisse aus Studien mit bildgebenden Verfahren, psychologischen Experimenten und Patientenstudien dargestellt werden.

Das Ablegen einer Studienleistung bzw. der Erwerb von 3 bzw. 4 Leistungspunkten ist an folgende Anforderungen geknüpft:
1. Regelmäßige aktive Teilnahme als Diskutant (maximal 2mal fehlen)
2. Gestaltung einer Sitzung durch Referat eines Buchkapitels und Leitung der Diskussion (für 4 LPs zusätzlich 2seitiges Handout der Referatsinhalte). Gruppenarbeit ist möglich.
